Newtown Festival is back in 2019 with a peachy local lineup

It’s that time of the year! Newtown Festival has come around once again to unleash its sprawling greatness onto Newtown’s favourite park.

The Newtown Neighbourhood Centre have just dropped the lineup for the festival, taking place on Sunday the 10th of November in Camperdown Memorial Rest Park. The event has always offered a proudly Inner West-centric lineup of musicians with a strong connection to the area, and this year it’s no different.

The Newtown Festival lineup has just dropped, featuring some of the best acts the Inner West has to offer, plus a day of art, talks, and more.

Headlining the festival are home-grown rockers The Delta Riggs, along with Sydney’s garage darlings The Buoys, jazz brainiacs Godtet, and the country’s very own notoriously-hard-to-google eponymous indie band; Australia.

Also included on the line-up are the likes of psych-rock up-and-comers The Lazy Eyes, space-funk purveyors The Goods and suburban pop-seductress Lola Scott, plus a whole heap more.

As well as live music there will be a bunch of art, talks, and over 200 food and market stalls to enjoy.

Eco Village will offer a program of discussions and workshops curated by Sydney Sustainability Centre on steps to environmental sustainability, both big and small. Inner West’s Heaps Gay will also be returning with their ever-popular Karaoke Closet.

A new addition this year’s festival is the EDGE “IRL” Talks Tent, devoted to interactive talks about some of the prominent issues affecting the community, with a particular focus on 12-25 year olds, and the importance of art and creativity to community and economic wellbeing. Yoga classes, gardening workshops, and spoken word performances are just some of the things to be expected from the tent.

And it’s not just all about the leisure – there’s also a great cause being supported. In a statement released by Newtown Neighbourhood Centre, CEO Liz Yeo described:

“Since last year’s festival, thanks to our community, we have been able to start two new local initiatives supporting people who are sleeping rough or at risk of homelessness in the Inner West.” So far 13 people have been housed.

Newtown Festival will take place on Sunday the 10th of November in Camperdown Memorial Rest Park between 9:30 AM – 5:30 PM. Entry is an expected donation of $5 or more. The best part of it all? Dogs are welcome.
