Soak in the golden hues of Soccer Mommy’s new track ‘yellow is the color of her eyes’

The beautiful voice that is Soccer Mommy has just released her new song yellow is the color of her eyes, taking listeners on a journey which stretches across seven masterful minutes.

You won’t want to miss a second of this sprawling track, which takes a leap from Soccer Mommy’s previous release Lucy and focuses on a thoughtful curation of sound and story.

yellow is the color of her eyes showcases the boldness and lyrical bravery of Soccer Mommy as well as the meticulousness which goes into crafting a seven-minute epic.

Soccer Mommy captures this track’s unique sense of wonder with the addition of Mary Lattimore on harp, creating an airy and mysterious atmosphere which complements Sophie Allison’s rock-angel vocals.

While Allison’s heart-wrenching lyrics are enough to concoct vivid imagery as the song plays out, there’s also a stunning short film to accompany the single, created by Her Smell director Alex Ross Perry.

On the short film Alex Ross Perry stated:

“The challenge of creating a 7-minute piece was daunting and irresistible in equal measure. Having just completed a film for which the color-coded design of it’s various acts was of the utmost importance, Sophie’s idea of collaborating on a short-form film to compliment her similarly-conceived new music was irresistible.”

“Running with her idea of locations evoking where she wrote this song, the concept couldn’t have announced itself more boldly. To that, I shared images from Breaking the Waves and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. It wasn’t until we got the footage back that I realized a dash of first-scene-of-Inception had snuck in there, as well.”

It’s clear yellow is the color of her eyes is a track which Soccer Mommy holds close to her heart. Speaking about the new release, the artist stated:

“‘yellow is the color of her eyes’ is a song that is really important to me. The song was inspired by a time when I was on the road constantly and I felt like I was losing time – specifically with my mother. It’s also a song that I feel really showcases my writing when it comes to instrumentation, so it’s one that makes me really proud.”

Soccer Mommy has been as busy as ever over the last few years, creating incredible music and performing around the world. She has opened for the likes of Kacey MusgravesVampire Weekend, and Paramore, and sold out a myriad of headline shows.
