Sad Grrls Club are wrapping up another huge year by hosting a massive Christmas party at The Landsdowne. Unlike your regular holiday hangs, the NOT JUST GRRRLS Christmas Party has a strict ‘no racist uncles’ and ‘no skeezy co-workers’ policy. For more information, head to the event page.

Sad Grrls Club want punters to know their events are safe spaces and are held on the traditional lands of the Gadigal people of the Eora nation, and that sovereignty has never been ceded.

Kitty’s Soul Kitchen

Things are heating up in the lead-up to the last Kitty’s night of the year. Kitty’s Soul Kitchen delivers a healthy dose of top-shelf disco, funk, boogie, hip hop, reggae, latin, tropical and soul music all night at DJ MEEM’s dynamite monthly jam.

Archie Rose Summer Gin Garden

The Rook has been transformed into the Archie Rose Summer Gin Garden, complete with kitsch garden furniture and the cocktail and bar menu of your dreams. The event is running weekly on Saturdays until December 22.

Blak Markets Christmas Festival

The Blak Markets will celebrate its fifth birthday this weekend on Bare Island at La Perouse with a massive Christmas festival. The markets will showcase authentic and unique gifts, with all of the profits going back into Aboriginal communities. They are also a great way of featuring the arts, crafts, foods and performances of one of the oldest living cultures in the world.

There’ll be performances by dancers The Yaama Boys and singer Charlie Trindall, as well as a weaving workshop with Auntie Karleen Green. For more information, head over to the Facebook event page.

Sydney Poetry Bookers Picnic

The Sydney Poetry Bookers Picnic recognises the significance of the coordinators of poetry who organise the regular readings in Sydney and its greater regions. The day will feature a reading by three-time winner of the Nimbin World Cup of Poetry and co-founder of Bard Flies, one of Sydney’s first spoken word events.

Melbourne: Record Affair

Vinyl collectors will be pleased to know that the Northcote Social Club is opening its doors this Saturday for a market dedicated to records from DJs selling their personal stashes, mega vinyl collectors and radio announcers.

Adelaide: Adelaide Wine Markets

Canberra: Love and Desire – Pre-Raphaelite Masterpieces from The Tate

Today is the first day of the National Gallery of Australia’s new Pre-Raphaelite exhibition, with masterpieces arriving from The Tate as we speak. Iconic pieces such as John Everett Millais’ Ophelia and John William Waterhouse’s The Lady of Shalott will be making the journey as part of the showcase.
