AOC says Supreme Court justices who lied under oath should be impeached

Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez addressed the Supreme Court’s recent overturning of Roe v. Wade on NBC’s Meet The Press.

Over the weekend, we learned that the Supreme Court of the United States (SCOTUS) overturned the Roe v. Wade ruling meaning that access to safe abortions would no longer be a constitutional right.

Since the overturning, abortion is now illegal or heavily restricted in at least 11 states.

The new ruling is completely enraging and disheartening and has caused an unfathomable amount of supporters of access to safe abortions to speak out.

Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spoke on NBC’s Meet The Press on Sunday, saying she believes the Supreme Court Justices who ‘misled’ Americans during their confirmation hearings about whether or not they support Roe v. Wade should be impeached for lying under oath.

AOC told Chuck Todd that SCOTUS “dramatically overreached its authority” and created a “crisis of legitimacy” that the President needs to deal with.

“If we allow Supreme Court nominees to lie under oath and secure lifetime appointments to the highest court of the land and then issue — without basis, if you read these opinions — rulings that deeply undermine the human civil rights of the majority of Americans, we must see that through,” AOC said.

“There must be consequences for such a deeply destabilising action and the hostile takeover of our democratic institutions,” she added.

“What makes it particularly dangerous is that it sends a blaring signal to all future nominees that they can now lie to duly elected members of the United States Senate in order to secure a Supreme Court confirmation,”
