A shiny silver vinyl, and a helluva tour: The Magnetic Fields are celebrating 25 years of 69 Love Songs

The Magnetic Fields are about to embark on a major tour to celebrate 25 years of 69 Love songs

I fondly recall falling in love with The Magnetic Fields ’69 Love Songs’ box set back in ’99. It became a staple on my weekends, playing on repeat alongside a cold brew at lively gatherings.

Those were the days when my papa was a rodeo, my mom was a rock ‘n’ roll band, and I considered myself the luckiest guy on the Lower East Side.

Jump ahead 25 years, and the indie lofi vibe of the box set is still as cool as it ever was. Stephin Merritt’s masterpiece about love, “69 Love Songs,” is like a gem with many sides—it’s funny, smart, a bit dark, unforgettable, and perfect for a lifetime of listening!

Seeing it drop again and getting all that love makes this writers heart feel very full.

For its 25th anniversary, Merge Records is giving it the fancy treatment with the Peak Vinyl edition. This Silver Edition comes with six 10-inch records, all pressed on shiny silver vinyl.

The packaging’s got cool silver foil stuff too. Plus, if you’re quick, the first 500 orders get a postcard signed by the maestro himself,  Stephin Merritt!

The Magnetic Fields are also gearing up for a bunch of two-night shows where they’ll play all 69 Love Songs. Tickets are flying, so don’t dally. And hey, don’t miss out on the reissued 69 Love Songs t-shirt from 2019—it’s a nod to the album turning 20.

If you happen to be in these States/Towns/Countries – you lucky bastards, The Magnetic Fields are touring!
