Happy Mag’s guide to The Other Art Fair, December 2021

The Other Art Fair is different for all the right reasons. With over 110 independent artists and prices starting at $100, this is an art expo for everyone.

Painters and prophets, we come bearing gifts. Celebrated creative group Saatchi Art has scoured Australia, returning with over 110 independent artists of diverse disciplines and walks of life. Here to showcase their eclectic works, The Other Art Fair is an eccentric exhibition you truly won’t find anywhere else.

The Fair will also be home to DJs, neon nudes, tattoo artists, performances, and to top it all off, a well-stocked bar courtesy of Bombay Sapphire. To help you navigate all this wonderful, welcome, organised chaos, here’s what to expect this December at the beloved fair.

The Other Art Fair Guide

What’s on offer?

Beginning on December 2nd at The Cutaway in Barangaroo, you and your mates will be able to free roam around the large-scale fair. When you’re there, you might stumble across Evanescent (Atelier Sisu); an unmissable sculpture of gigantic bubbles, rediscovering your childlike wonder.

Maybe, you’ll spot The Birds (Eness): a light spectacle previewing at the fair before Sydney’s Chinese Garden for Nature Illuminated next year.

If you’re lucky, you’ll run into the Neon Nudes interactive section, where you’ll be able to paint your own life drawing with UV paints. On the way out, don’t forget to stop by the Society Illustration Corner, where you’ll have to chance to take home your very own complimentary illustration from two of Sydney’s best illustrators.

These are only a few of the seemingly endless possibilities at this December’s Other Art Fair.

Refreshments and entertainment

If you need a break from the art gander, stop by Bombay Sapphire’s loaded bar for a cheeky refreshment. They’re trialling four brand new cocktails, and even an interactive tasting quiz which lets you “curate your own cocktail” based on your answers.

All across the fair, they’ll also be plenty of trusty food vendors if you fancy a bite. Music lover too? Live DJs hosted by Musicland will be pumping the tunes throughout the fair to keep your spirits high.

Sydney-based stick and poke tattoo artists Ink Sphinx and Nah Mate will also be on deck if you’re feeling like a new tattoo. It’s first in best dressed, so don’t overthink it! Check out some of their designs below:
