Vid O' The Week: Jonathan Boulet – Hold It Down

Chances are you’ve heard this song before (a million times before if you listen to FBi Radio), so you’re gonna need a pretty good excuse to hit play again on Jonathan Boulet‘s Hold It Down. Here is that good, nay, amazing excuse – the amazing video clip that accompanies the amazing song.

The latest album, Gubba, sees Jono move towards a much harder, rock and roll sound. Seeing as this has come from the dude who made his name in the local scene on Modular Records with that indiest of indie tracks Public Service Announcement, this move to being a rocker took Boulet fans by surprise, but we all know that when you make such a change, the music is only a small part of a bigger picture.

The biggest is Boulet’s change in lifestyle, and this video utterly represents how that badass transformation took place. Look at how good that guy is at smoking cigarettes. Look at how awesome that AC/DC motorbike helmet is. Look at how good they are at starting that bike. Oh, and that tan pants + wifebeater combo with the wraparounds just screams rebel without a cause. Or 420 Speed Dealers. Both are good.

The absolute best part is how deadpan this entire clip is – the seriousness with which the finger is given to both the cameraman and the bonfire, the nonchalance of that failed gob. The one exception is a few genuine smiles around the campfire right at the end of the clip, which would have destroyed our immersion in the sheer aweseomeness of the cast, if not for that wonderful wink at the end from Richard Boulet, who I would assume is related to Jonathan in some manner.

Gubba, the latest album from Boulet is out now via Popfrenzy – pick up a copy for yourself from your local CD retailer or on the internets.
