Watch the intense final trailer for the upcoming Joker film

After all the Marvel spam we’ve been getting in recent times, it’s nice to finally see a darker superhero film from the DC universe set for release later this year. A final trailer for Joker has been released.

Joaquin Phoenix, star of films such as Walk the Line and Her, will play Arthur Fleck, a man who makes ends meet as a clown and standup comedian until he becomes involved in Gotham City’s crime scene, from which he begins to embody the infamous villain that is The Joker.

The final official trailer for the much-anticipated film Joker has been released, comprehensively charting Arthur Fleck’s development into The Joker.

The trailer charts a visceral and intriguing montage of his character development (or disintegration, depending on how you look at it). Perhaps contrary to Nolan’s Dark Knight, the trailer allows us to empathise with The Joker, who he is and what makes him who he is.

The film will be screened at the Venice Film Festival later this week. Its theatrical release in the United States will be on October 4th.

In the trailer, we get insight into the early stages of Fleck’s alienation as he states, “Through my whole life, I didn’t know if I even really existed. But I do. People are starting to notice.”

The film has been advertised as a “Psychological Thriller”, a refreshing shift away from the traditional ‘superhero flick.’ Check out the trailer below:
