Woodworking artist the Scroll Saw Scribbler cuts 3D pop culture figures into wood without a laser cutter

Artist and carpenter Justin Cristensen has developed a niche hobby. Using a scroll saw and his other tools, he creates images of pop culture icons that look like digital drawings, or something made with a laser cutter.

Without a laser cutter, you’d have trouble pulling this off, but somehow the Scroll Saw Scribbler manages it with one simple tool.

The other remarkable thing about Cristensen’s artwork is that he mills his own wood, while trying to avoid dyeing it. This means that these pictures are only coloured when absolutely necessary, preferring the natural colourings of different types of timber.

See more of his art below, featuring Hannibal Lecter, Beetlejuice, Mario and Luigi.
