DOBBY performs ‘Walk Away’ Live From Happy

PRESENTED BY

Hip Hop artist and multi-instrumentalist DOBBY recently visited the Live from Happy studios with his single Walk Away. Released back in May the single features The Merindas (Ballardong Whadjuk and Nyoongar woman Kristel Kickett and Candice Lorrae of Jawoyn and Thursday Island heritage).

The self-produced single Walk Away is as big in its production as it is within its message. It’s about staying true to yourself and your heritage and the lyrics in the chorus send that home: “They took away my language and you tell me let it go. You expect me to walk away?”

Walk Away was Mixed and Recorded by Tim McArtney, Owen Penglis and Radi Safi.

This Live from Happy session was made possible by the generous support of ATEN who provide innovative solutions for making better connections. In this session Happy utilised the indispensable ATEN UH3237 USB-C Docking Station.

Coming in solo — but stopping for a moment to shred on the Happy Studio piano and pat the office dog — DOBBY gave us one hell of an energetic performance of his single Walk Away.

Walk Away is the beginning of a new sound palette for DOBBY, who previously didn’t go as deep into production as he does on this track.

Having just come back from Bigsound he’s also fresh off a huge project scoring for film. It’s part of the NATSIMO Screen Composer Intensive and the outcome was the short film ‘SPRING’ where he composed everything.

Here’s what DOBBY had to say about Walk Away before taking to the stage:

“This song means so much to me. It’s a very special song that speaks to all mob, first nations people, it’s about standing strong, in your solidarity and in your resilience.

We don’t walk away. We don’t back away from the fight, we stand strong in who we are in our cultures and our history. For our continued survival on these unceded lands.”
