Art vs. Science performs ‘Check The Boombox’ Live From Happy

PRESENTED BY

Dance-punk band Art vs. Science recently visited the Live from Happy studio bringing in their single Check the Boombox. Released in 2022, It comes from their album Big Overdrive which dropped this year.

This performance made us dance and has been stuck in our heads as Check the Boombox is one fun jam that’s an ode to getting out to shows, dancing and shaking off your troubles. If anyone is going to make you smile, nod your head and move your body, it’s Art vs. Science.

Check The Boombox was Mixed and Recorded by Tim McArtney, Owen Penglis and Radi Safi.

This Live from Happy session was made possible by the generous support of ATEN who provide innovative solutions for making better connections. In this session Happy utilised the indispensable ATEN UH3237 USB-C Docking Station.

Coming in as a duo, Dan Mac and Dan W plugged their vocals in guitar pedals, and one vocal into a guitar amp to give us some of the most inventive and exciting sounds and effects we’d ever heard.

Adding funky guitar, vintage synths and a drum pad to the mix, they gave an original and creative version of Check the Boombox that captured the energy of the song perfectly.

Telling us a back story about how a friend’s cat approved of the song in the writing and recording process, we were stoked to have Art vs. Science in with an insane setup of rare and unique gear that transformed the Happy Studios into a dance party!

Here’s what Art vs. Science had to say about Check the Boombox before taking to the stage:

“We wrote it up at a friend’s place where we were house sitting and we had to look after her cat and the cat liked this song!

When we wrote it we were thinking about not being in lockdown and wanting to get out and dance and that’s kinda what the song is about.”
