It’s officially Needle In The Hay season, which means we’ve got some stellar music to share, this time in the form of FVNERAL.
For this Needle In The Hay spotlight, look no further than Eora/Sydney-based band FVNERAL, who dropped their sophomore EP HONEST last month.
The five-track collection serves as a profound exploration of the band’s quest for honesty, and delves deep into the complexities of confronting dark truths.
Kicking things off is the warm acoustic glow of HAPPY ANNIVERSARY, which coasts on catchy rhythms and ascendant vocal harmonies.
Elsewhere, FVNERAL deliver staple indie rock on FROZEN LASAGNE, before embarking on a process of self-discovery on the stirring and soul-bearing single MERCY.
The tracklist is rounded out by the STAY two-parter, which makes use of glittery auto-tune and the sparse strums of acoustic guitar.
EP closer HEY THERE, HAPPINESS culminates the band’s efforts with a tender rumination on coming-of-age and the search for life’s joys.
Pairing blissful sonics with diaristic storytelling, FVNERAL manifest a level of candour that’s all-too-rare in music these days.
FVNERAL is the brainchild of founders Ally Turner and Tim Blunt, the latter of whom said of the EP: “we hope that anyone who hears these songs can feel just how transformative being honest can be.”
Proving to be transformative in itself, HONEST stands as a masterclass in poignant production and stirring lyricism, making FVNERAL more than worthy of their entry into this year’s Needle In The Hay.
