Let’s dive into the soulful sounds of Needle in the Hay submission, Jess Reiss with her touching single, Come Back Honey.
Jess Reiss is an emerging soul and indie-pop singer, songwriter and producer from Sydney, who is popping up in the music scene through Triple J and FBi Radio.
Jess’s 2022 Needle in the Hay entry, Come Back Honey first blessed our ears on September 30, with its melting pot of smooth and soulful sounds. It captures a yearning for love that’s been lost through heartbreaking lyrics and warm vocal tones. Through her five-piece band, Jess’s eloquent track has a mesmerizing breakdown of emotional melodic fluttering instruments and ethereal vocal harmonies. Psychedelic guitar and funky grooves also glide effortlessly through track.
With a tinge of ’70s synth to it, Jess’s vocals float so peacefully and calmly over the bundle of sounds that dance below it. This song invites us into Jess’s vulnerable emotions and outcries. Jess recently played a show at Marrickville Bowling Club for Bootleg Rascals tour and is a finalist for the competition run by Yours & Owls festival 2023.
