The War On Drugs are an American rock group founded by Adam Granduciel and Kurt Vile in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 2005. The group released their debut album, Wagonwheel Blues, in 2008 before Vile departed to pursue his solo career.
The outfit's second offering, Slave Ambient, marked a new direction for the band highlighted by expansive production, neo-psychedelia, and krautrock influences. Their third album, Lost In The Dream (2014), was released via Secretly Canadian, and achieved widespread critical acclaim, selling 118,000 copies.
In 2017, The War On Drugs released their fourth studio album via Atlantic Records: A Deeper Understanding which won a Grammy for Best Rock Album.
