Bikini Kill are keeping the classics front and centre.
Bikini Kill are properly back in live mode, and if their recent shows are anything to go by, they’re not exactly easing into it.
The riot grrrl legends have a stack of North American dates lined up across September, taking Kathleen Hanna, Tobi Vail, Kathi Wilcox and Sara Landeau through Seattle, Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Austin and beyond.
And for anyone heading along and wondering what they might hear, Bikini Kill’s recent Mosswood Meltdown appearance gives us a pretty solid idea.
Their July 19 headline set in Oakland ran for roughly 75 minutes and pulled heavily from across the band’s catalogue, opening with ‘New Radio’ before moving through ‘Don’t Need You’, ‘Feels Blind’, ‘Double Dare Ya’, ‘Alien She’ and plenty more.
There was plenty from Pussy Whipped and Reject All American, alongside early cuts and singles, before things wrapped up exactly where you’d hope: with ‘Rebel Girl’.
For the Mosswood encore, they were even joined by Sleater-Kinney for the punk anthem, before closing out with ‘Finale’.
Obviously, festival slots and individual shows can change things around, but if you’re catching Bikini Kill during their September run, this is a pretty good cheat sheet.
