It was back in 2016, with the release of her debut album Night Underground, that we were first introduced to the crunching rock n’ roll sounds of Donna Amini.
Having been raised on traditional Persian music and classical violin pieces, Amini takes a broad range of influences and ropes them into a blistering sound that’s unlike anything else currently making the rounds. Now, with the release of her new single Big Machine, this seasoned member of the local music community has re-established her place as one of Sydney’s most unique rock artists.
One of Sydney’s most unique rock acts Donna Amini has returned with Big Machine; a blistering slice of rock music that’ll stick with you for weeks.
Throughout the new track, Amini stomps through bone-rattling percussion, reckless guitars, and arresting vocal delivery to craft a tune that’ll stick with you long after it reaches the conclusion of its three-and-a-half minute duration.
As the song builds with its various crashing elements, it forms into something that feels simultaneously focused and overwhelming – like stumbling through some dystopian, industrial city.
The song’s accompanying video is an all-out assault on the senses, as images of Amini performing the track are distorted and overlaid with flashing imagery of cityscapes.
“After months of working on ‘Big Machine’, it’s exactly the song I imagined it to be; which is what I’m most proud of,” Amini says of the new track. “I would say that the new songs sound fresh and they feel good to play. They feel like they are authentically me.”
Big Machine is the first taste of Donna Amini’s forthcoming second album… and judging by what we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes.
