The Melbourne songwriter brings a decade of experience together on her first LP.
After more than a decade of making music, Australian-born, American-raised singer-songwriter Grace Mitchell has finally released her debut album, Daughter of The King, via Cheersquad Records & Tapes.
The 12-track record brings together indie rock, grunge, hazy psychedelia and more intimate songwriting, with Mitchell drawing on five years of writing that began in Hollywood before she returned to Melbourne.
She plays guitar, bass and keyboards across the album, completing the final touches at Melbourne’s Lily Street Studios last year.
The album follows a run of singles including ‘Destroy’, which picked up high rotation on Double J, ‘Head On’, and the recent double-A side ‘Baseball Hat’ and ‘In The Other Room’.
While Daughter of The King is Mitchell’s first full-length, she’s been around the block a few times. Her cover of Hall & Oates’ ‘Maneater’ appeared on The Secret Life of Walter Mitty soundtrack, while she’s since performed at Coachella, Lollapalooza and Bonnaroo and supported artists including The Weeknd, MØ, MUNA and Tove Lo.
Now, Mitchell is bringing the album home with a Melbourne launch at Shotkickers on Friday, September 18, followed by an appearance at The Corner Hotel on October 31 for Cheersquad’s Chicksquad celebration of the venue’s 30th birthday.
Daughter of The King is out now via Cheersquad Records & Tapes, with limited-edition black and translucent orange vinyl also available.
