Kingston County’s 5 favourite acts from Sydney

Not last week Kingston County dropped their latest jam Something Better, the fruits of a recording session at a rented house in Bulahdelah NSW. It’s a more addictive sound than ever from the seven-piece, and we can’t wait to hear what else they have up their sleeves.

Until then, we needed something to tide us over. So we asked Kingston County to pick five current favourite acts from the scene they call their own – Sydney.

Kingston County Something Better

Looking for a few new bands to check out? Kingston County have you covered with their five favourite bands from Sydney.

Ruby Fields

Favourite track: Dinosaurs

We are really stoked at how well Ruby is exploding onto the Australian music scene at the moment. We remember playing with her at the Brass Monkey in Cronulla a few years back and she was totally killing it even then. Now she’s captivating audiences with her honest and raw sound which is really cool and unique.

It’s awesome to see a bunch of mates playing good music on stage together, the way they play shows amazing chemistry.

Caravana Sun

Favourite Track: Beauty and the Pain

Caravana Sun are absolutely smashing it locally, nationally and internationally! Their music has really developed into their own signature sound, coming from a real organic and roots sound and transforming into a poppy – rocky masterpiece.

They’re a great example of a hard working, relentless touring, and highly focused band.

The Kava Kings

Favourite Track: Friends

The Kava Kings are a band that’s proving to be a real big deal in the scene, trading local pubs to slots on festival stages. The lads have toured Australia extensively as well as hitting up Europe twice.

We think this is a pretty cool achievement from a band so close to us (our drummer is in their band too). Expecting a big 2019 from them when they bring out their new music.

Letters to Lions

Favourite Track: Skeleton

The Letters to Lions lads have the coolest sound in the scene (in our opinion). It’s jangly, it’s ambient, it’s dance-y and it’s epic. They always pack out a local show, doesn’t matter where it is or who else is playing.

There is definitely something special about this band, and if they continue to belt out banger after banger then they will no doubt blow the heck up.

Dylan Wright

Favourite Track: Ocean Eyes

Dylan has such an amazing voice. It’s sort of like Jack Johnson, sort of like John Mayer, but it’s 100% Dylan. His songwriting is so beautiful, so honest, so gentle and so clever.

There are millions of singer/songwriter projects going around but Dylan seems to stand out the most in the scene. He has the ability to work an intimate venue as well as a crowded and rowdy pub, which isn’t easy to do.
