Neil Young can be kind of unpredictable. You never fully know what to expect with the guy. And this week, he’s proven that to be true once again.
In a totally unrelated blog post, the iconic singer-songwriter just casually dropped in two sentences revealing that he and Crazy Horse were releasing a new album, and that it’s titled Pink Moon.
In a blog post remembering the recording of 1969’s Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere in honour of its 50th anniversary, Neil Young has revealed a surprise announcement of a new Crazy Horse album.
“This album is fifty years old. The 50th anniversary is right now! It stays because it was a high point. Now, coming from the Horse fifty years later, we have ‘Pink Moon.’ That’s our next studio album.”
As for the title, there’s no word yet on whether the reference to Nick Drake’s album of the same name was intentional. And while Young is somewhat prolific for saying one thing and doing another/not doing anything at all, we’re remaining hopeful on this one.
In an interview last year, he did mention “four or five Crazy Horse albums that have never been heard, that are sitting there ready to come out.”
So I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. In the mean time, keep an eye on those blog posts.
