Date the eldritch horror of your dreams in ‘Sucker for Love’

DreadXP’s new dating simulator Sucker for Love: First Date features three eldritch beings as players’ horrific love interests.

While we are no strangers to unique dating sims, Sucker for Love certainly gives the other monster-themed dating sims out there a run for their money. It comes with a cutesy, old school anime style trailer and a catchy song to boot.

DreadXP, the game’s developer, is known for their indie horror games, and fans of their work may recognise that Sucker for Love is actually based on one of the shorts in Dread X Collection 2. The game is set to be released in December this year, though no official date has been announced yet.

Taken from the game’s Steam page, the premise for the visual novel is as follows:

“Obsessed with occult rituals, you have finally obtained the last thing you need to summon the eldritch horror that has been haunting your dreams; a strange, bright-pink Necronomicon. You perform the only ritual that doesn’t appear to be insane ramblings, and inadvertently summon Ln’eta, a cute cthulhu-like girl.”

“She agrees to a kiss, on the condition that you perform a few rituals from the book for her first. Looking back at the Necronomicon… all of the other pages suddenly make sense?”

Like most games in the dating sim genre, every choice the player makes will determine the ending they reach. The game currently features three eldritch themed loved interests; Ln’eta, Estir and Nyanlathotep, all fully-voiced, accompanied by sprites reminiscent of old school anime.

Given the developer’s history and the Lovecraftian vibes though, we’re expecting this to subvert the dating sim genre in some pretty spectacular ways.

“Following the amazing reception to the original Sucker for Love concept featured in Dread X Collection 2, we knew we had something special on our hands,” DreadXP’s owner Patrick Ewald says. “We’re delighted to work with developer Joseph Hunter of Akabaka on expanding Sucker for Love into a series of fun and bizarre games.”
