Last week we got the abrupt news that Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds were set to release a new record, and a film, this September. The details though were pretty thin. Nick Cave and The Bad Seeds announce details around new album, Skeleton Tree, and accompanying film film, One More Time With Feeling.

The album will be Cave’s first since 2013’s Push The Sky Away. Since that time he has written a book, The Sick Bag Song, and starred in a documentary about himself, 20,000 Days On Earth. He also tragically lost his son.

The new album will be out September 9th, the day after the Andrew Dominik-directed film, which will premiere at midnight on September 8th.

Work on the record reportedly began in 2014 in Brighton, where Cave lives, and finished at La Frette Studios, France in autumn 2015. A press release has finally been release about the film:

“Originally a performance based concept, One More Time With Feeling evolved into something much more significant as Dominik delved into the tragic backdrop of the writing and recording of the album. Interwoven throughout the Bad Seeds’ filmed performance of the new album are interviews and footage shot by Dominik, accompanied by Cave’s intermittent narration and improvised rumination.

Filmed in black-and-white and colour, in both 3D and 2D, the result is stark, fragile and raw, and a true testament to an artist trying to find his way through the darkness.”

Announcement also came on via Twitter.
