Winston Surfshirt is a funk hip-hop band from Sydney's Northern Beaches. The 6-piece formed in 2015 and consist of vocalist and multi-instrumentalist Winston, Bustlip on beats, The Bone on trombone, Bik Julio on bass guitar, Dool on keyboards and Mi-K on guitar and keys.
Having garnered a cult following for their raucous live shows, Winston Surfshirt took off in 2017 with their single Be About You which scored #27 on Triple J's Hottest 100. The same year they signed with Sony BMG and dropped their debut album Sponge Cake.
A blend of smooth grooves, laid back vocal deliveries and instrumental virtuosity have made the band favourites on the live scene. Australia's leading festivals - like Splendour in the Grass and Falls Festival - have been ticked off by Winston Surfshirt, as well as a massive run of international dates.
In 2018, they released their second album Apple Crumble, which spawned the hit singles For the Record, Make a Move, and Smile.
As with everybody else in 2020-21, touring has taken a back seat for Winston Surfshirt. There's no doubt, however, that this touring force to be reckoned with will be back on the road again soon. And without a release in a few years now, there's no doubt that this six-piece will be back in the studio soon.
