Gotye (real name Wouter 'Wally' De Backer) is a Belgian-born multi-instrumentalist hailing from Melbourne, Australia. The indie-pop musician started out his music career playing in bands before taking on the moniker Gotye in 2001.
In 2006, the release of his second album, Like Drawing Blood, brought him into the national spotlight, and the following year he won the ARIA for Best Male Artist. However, it wasn't until the release of his universally-beloved single Somebody That I Used To Know(featuring Kimbra) in 2011, that De Baker skyrocketed to global recognition. The song took out triple j's Hottest 100 that same year and reached #1 in more than ten countries, two years later also receiving two Grammy Awards. Since then, De Baker has taken a step back from releasing music as Gotye and focused his attention to his independent record label, Spirit Level.
In 2020, Somebody That I Used To Know took out the number two spot in triple j's Hottest 100 of the Decade.
