PREMIERE: Astrodeath’s debut single Humanoid Slave is a barrage of unapologetic noise

I don’t think there has ever existed a two-piece band capable of creating as much noise as Sydney duo Astrodeath. Made up of guitarist and vocalist Tim Lancken and Drummer Yoshi Hausler, the band stomp through a blistering concoction of sounds that will slap you right across the head.

As the band gear up to release their debut self-titled album later this year, they’ve shared the record’s first single Humanoid Slave. With the track’s release, Astrodeath have immediately established their intentions of belting out unapologetic slices of heavy rock.

On their blistering new single Humanoid Slave, Sydney duo Astrodeath make one hell of a first impression. This is definitely a name you’ll want to keep an eye on.

Across the new track’s four-minute duration, Lancken and Hausler meld together elements of stoner-rock, punk, metal and sludge to deliver a sound uniquely their own. With thunderous percussion, crunching guitars, and flailing screams, Humanoid Slave will crawl under your skin and stay there for weeks.

Recorded by Nick Franklin and Matt Stewart at Linear Recording Studios and Rolodex Studios, the track feels equal parts reckless and air-tight.

The song is set in the future, on a desert planet way-out of our solar system. We follow the protagonist a humanoid-Neanderthal-alien-slave as he breaks the chains of his oppressive overlords and journeys haplessly through the uninhabitable desert landscape,” the band say of the track.

As his life drains from his exhausted and dehydrated body, vultures pick out his burning eyes and scarabs feast on his flesh, his brain starts to blur the lines of reality and fiction hallucinations see him following spiralling geoglyphs and ancient rock formations leading him to the mass graves of futuristic humans.

These are still early days for Astrodeath, but judging by what we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more quality material. Here’s hoping that album isn’t too far off.
