Australian Greens pledge to introduce recreational cannabis bill to parliament by the end of 2018

The Australian Greens party has just announced a federal policy seeking to legalise the use of recreational cannabis in Australia.

All over the world, more and more drug-aware citizens are subscribing to the belief that marijuana use should be treated as a public health issue, rather than a criminal issue. This philosophy stands at the centre of the Greens’ argument.

With a new federal bill, Richard Di Natale and The Australian Greens are spearheading Australia’s most prominent move for recreational cannabis to date.

Recently, several states in the US have legalised recreational marijuana – in California this has amounted to a billion dollar industry. Canada is currently in preparations for simliar legalisation within their own borders, with the new laws currently pencilled in for August.

There are several countries and provinces across the world where legal marijuana has been proven to benefit society in a number of ways, from an increase in industry jobs, to lower opioid use, and a lowered level of gang activity.

In Australia, the US, and all over the world, the war on drugs has caused more than its fair share of harm, and it seems that finally, things are changing. The Australian Greens have promised this bill will be in parliament by the end of 2018.
