Happy’s Best New Music

Updated weekly by the fine folk at Happy Mag, this is the absolute best new music that this week has to offer from Australia and around the world!

Baker Boy Gela

Baker boy blesses us with his debut LP Gela – a dancey fusion of pop and hip-hop bangers sung in English and his native tongue. The entire album is an endless stream of powerful energies and good vibes. From tracks like Survive and Fuck Wit Us to more chilled-out funky songs like Cool As Hell and My Mind (ft. G Flip), Baker Boy finds a way to create a body of work that is sonically refreshing and cohesive.

Adele Easy On Me

Queen Adele has made a well-timed return with her unsurprisingly beautiful and sincere track Easy On Me. In typical Adele fashion, her elegant yet mighty vocals are accompanied by a solo piano, demonstrating the sheer power of her voice and how time has had very little impact on this. As always, the song resonates with the universal human experience of love and loss, packaged in a delightfully soothing melody.

Moktar – Silk

Moktar, an Egyptian-Australian DJ and producer has made an impressive and explorative five-track debut EP. His single Silk made it to #1 across Australian community radio whilst sonically celebrating his heritage through Arabic percussion and instrumentation. Moktar’s EP is incredibly colourful, and is an exhilarating contribution to modern electronica.

Hiatus Kaiyote Canopic Jar

The uncanny and eerie new single from the four-piece jazz/funk band is evocative of a Tim Burton/Kimbra-tinged fusion. Experimental and haunting, the track recalls the repetitive spiraling of the mind when trying to preserve an “unobtainable relationship”. It perfectly encapsulates the inwards battle that conflicted lovers experience during such tumultuous times.

Disclosure – DJ-Kicks: Disclosure

This latest project from dance duo Disclosure is a remix and continued exploration of the “club bangers” within their last album ENERGY. Re-working their previous songs on DJ-KICKS: Disclosure has allowed the duo to branch off in a direction they have always wanted to pursue. The album delightfully highlights the artistry and varied sonic textures that typically swim underneath vocal melodies,
