Geelong five-piece, The Murlocs, give us the first taste of the follow up to 2014’s Loopholes with a brand new single Adolescence, plus they have announced they will be bringing their brand of 60’s lo-fi goodness across Australia on a six date tour run.
2014 was a massive year for The Murlocs, with the release of their killer debut LP Loopholes – a crushing collection of 60’s inspired garage, R&B and psychadelia – followed by some massive support slots with the likes of Mac Demarco, Ty Segall and King Gizzard and The Lizard Wizard (who also benefit from the manic delights of singer/harpist Ambrose Kenny-Smith’s harmonica playing). The new single Adolescence follows in the tradition of Loopholes with its twangy spaghetti western guitars, soulful effeminate vocals, and of course, that incredibly whacked out harmonica. Derived from inner-adolescent turmoil, Kenny-Smith explains the track is about “Still experiencing puberty blues when you have well outgrown your teenage years. The mood swings of a 20 something dropkick.”
The track has already been added to spot rotation on triple J and is hugely promising preview to their second studio album which is expected later in the year. In support of Adolescence, the band have also announced a string of tour dates around Australia. Tickets are on sale now.
