Otto Da Fe 5 for 5

We go five rounds with Sydney’s alt-pop maestro Otto Da Fé ahead of tonight’s Five for Five gig at Oxford Art Factory. It’s five questions with Otto Da Fé!

HAPPY: What’s the worst record you own?

OTTO: The Best of Al Jolson. The cover is literally the Man in Black(face)

HAPPY: Have you ever had or do you have a band Myspace page?

OTTO: MySpace sounds kinda survivalist. So yeah obviously I love the idea of having a small plot of ideology were the government can’t reach me. We were called Andrology, the name of a horse my dad backed. When kids found out what it meant, the year 9 courtyard was a feeding frenzy.

HAPPY: Who’s your favourite local act right now?

OTTO: The Southend Rainbows. There are others, but answering any differently is tantamount to signing a peace deal with Chang kai-shek: I’d be screwing myself.

HAPPY: What’s the scariest thing that’s ever happened to you at a show?

OTTO: Mum.

HAPPY: Would 16 year old you be into the music your band writes?

OTTO: I’ve slid pretty far down the gadarene slope since 16. And 16 year old me was a gobshite. I got into the Go Betweens around then and my life now is pretty much devoted to rewriting and destroying their music so I guess he would have.
