If you’re looking to cut loose next weekend, China Beach a putting on a cracker of a night at The Curtin before their extended hiatus.
7-piece party outfit China Beach “lives for the weekends”. With their irresistible cocktail of freaky funk and dirty jazz, the band have been a live music staple over the years across Melbourne.
The team are putting on a huge show before their hiatus, which may or may not involve Isabelle Skye (vocals) and Fabian Hunter (drums) heading off for a three-month Aussie outback adventure. Fair play. Here are the details on their final show and why the night is bound to be full-send.
Firstly, the event is at Melbourne’s iconic John Curtin Hotel. Not to worry, all will be COVID-safe and above board.
China Beach are also bringing along music legends Sal Wonder and Big Soap. Sal, the bass riding machine, has made a name for himself with his disco groove blend reminiscent of greats like D’Angelo and Al Green. Big Soap is a purely instrumental band of equal calibre. They started out as a tribute to James Brown’s rhythm section but quickly evolved to a retro-sounding force of old school swagger.
But wait, there’s more! China Beach will also be premiering a tongue-in-cheek video, titled Another Night in on the Weekend. The gang said it will “give you some idea of what they’ve been doing to keep busy during lockdown”. If it’s anything like their music, it’s going to be chaotic goodness and barrels of entertainment.
