If penguins had a prison, I’d definitely want to be there, so long as it contained these joyous sounds. Mixed in a world between indietronica, synthpop and dance-pop is the fun-filled sounds of Penguin Prison.
There are plenty of fun tunes to found from Penguin Prison. Now if only we could find some penguins who could dance to his music…
From the New York’s upper east side, Chris Glover is Penguin Prison. Not a newbie to the music industry, Chris grew up performing in different musical ventures, some even saw him play at CBGB in his teens. However, his debut release of Penguin Prison was in 2009 with the EP Animal Animal/ A Funny Thing. In September 2011 he released the self-titled, first album for Penguin Prison.
There is a great deal of collection with the music from Penguin Prison. Not only are there a lot of original songs but there is a lot of remixes. His remix tracks range from songs like: Lionel Richie’s All night long, Hockey’s My mind, Maroon 5’s Love Somebody, and Broods’ Bridges. The fact that songs are taken from a variety of different genres and remixed to add an own unique flavour whilst still retaining the original iconic elements of each song showcases the greatness that is Penguin Prison.
His most recent single Calling Out has a great Griswold’s and Hall & Oats feel to it. Released on October 15th the song has had a great reception. You can see the influences he has drawn in the creation of this track and they really shine through in the final product. It’s as if with this track, he has put the best of 80’s dance-pop in a pot and added his own signature spice to create a track is nothing if not outrageously dance-worthy.
So if you’re lucky enough to be in or travelling to America and up for a night of indietronica, synthpop and dance-pop you wont want to miss Penguin Prison live. His tour kicks off on October 22 in Boston, MA and finishing November 13 in Los Angeles, CA. Can’t wait to see what’s in store for him later in the year!
