Jonti performs ‘Rain’ Live From Happy

PRESENTED BY

Artist/Producer Jonti recently visited the Live from Happy studios with his single Rain. Released in 2017 it’s a psychedelic pop and left-field hip-hop jam from his second album Tokorats.

The single Rain was written about the passing of his grandfather, in fact, sadly, his grandfather passed while Jonti was on the plane to Los Angeles, putting him in a reflective bittersweet state as he started an exciting musical journey overseas.

Rain was Mixed and Recorded by Tim McArtney, Owen Penglis and Radi Safi.

This Live from Happy session was made possible by the generous support of ATEN and Mojave. ATEN provide innovative solutions for making better connections and Mojave make world class microphones that are affordable without compromise . In this session Happy utilised the indispensable ATEN UH3237 USB-C Docking Station and the Mojave MA-D Dynamic Handheld Microphone.

Coming in with his friend Ben Freeman (AKA thedieyoungs) they gave us a soulful version of Rain on their eye-watering array of expensive keyboards — Moog, Mellotron, Nord — and Jonti’s special sampler the Isla Instruments S2400.

He almost performed a new unreleased song for us — as he’s in deep working on a new album — but he thought he’d stick with a classic you may not have heard. The forthcoming album is called Moonblades and was recently performed with Ben at Phoenix central park.

Jonti and Ben specially rehearsed this version of Rain, even writing a new intro — just for us, and you! They reminisced that the last time they played this live was on tour in Japan in 2018.

Here’s what Jonti had to say about Rain before taking to the stage:

“It’s my favourite song to play. This song is how I envisioned music when I started making music. Making really raw-sounding beats and then singing harmonies on top. I went to LA and my grandfather had passed, as I landed, so when I perform it, it feels natural and I sing to the heavens.”
