Love Drunk Hearts signal a searing new direction on ‘Those Boys’

We’ve been fans of Love Drunk Hearts for a while now. Over the past number of years, the Sydney-based outfit have developed a sound that feels simultaneously grounded and far-reaching; it’s rooted in an earnest kind of indie-rock but stretches into far more exciting sonic territories.

With the release of their most recent single, Those Boys, the group continue to establish their penchant for crafting immersive gems of sound, all while incorporating a slightly darker, more swaggering attitude. If you’re not already across this band, now’s a perfect time to change that.

On their new single Those Boys, Sydney-based outfit Love Drunk Hearts craft a whirlpool of woozy, indie-rock brilliance.

All throughout the new single, Love Drunk Hearts—made up of Aaron Ikin, Ben Bryant, Chris Falkland, Michael Brown—glide through a hypnotic blend of folk, indie-rock, and psychedelia, delivering something that’s both familiar and fresh. With woozy, droning lead guitar lines, warm vocal hooks, air-tight percussion, and deep, groove-laden basslines, Those Boys swirls into a mesmerising whirlpool of sound. Across its relatively brief run-time, the song builds into something really quite cathartic.

With a string of consistently great single under their belts, LDH have showcased a knack for crafting deeply infectious melodies, and this song is no different. Where their other songs were laid-back and breezy, however, this new tune takes on a slightly more ruinous tone.

“It is easier than ever to fall in love,” the band say of the new track. “It is also easier than ever to be head over heels only to be left stranded for the allure of someone else. The song serves as an anthem for anyone who has been a spectator from the friend zone.”

Lyrically and sonically, Those Boys is Love Drunk Hearts’ most searing single to date. It’s also their strongest.

If this is any indicator of what’s to come from this Sydney outfit, we can’t wait to hear it. But in the meantime, do yourself a favour and listen to Those Boys above.
