It was back in March, with the release of their single Sleep It Off that we were first introduced to the stunning, dreamy pop stylings of Luke And Sarah-Rose. The Melbourne-based sibling duo have spent the better part of a year recording their debut album, crafting a sound that feels simultaneously grounded and explorative; it’s rooted in sparse pop sounds, but reaches far wider.
Now, with the release of their follow-up single Fuck You, the two-piece continue to build themselves as one of Aussie music’s more exciting emerging names. If you’re not already familiar with this name, it’s definitely time you changed that.
On their new single Fuck You, Melbourne duo Luke And Sarah-Rose present a chaotic but inherently hopeful slice of alt-pop brilliance.
Throughout the new single, Luke And Sarah-Rose glide through a hypnotic blend of alt-rock, dream-pop, and ambient to craft a sound uniquely their own. With considered layers of instrumentation and ethereal vocal hooks, Fuck You flips seamlessly between woozy melodies and unsettling sonic stabs.
“Fuck You is the big finger to the lived experience of bipolar,” Sarah-Rose says of the new track. And these weighty subjects are conveyed in full force through the chaotic and arresting arrangement of sounds.
However, with her vocal and lyrical delivery, Sarah-Rose creates a sense of resolve within the disorder. She acts as some sort of guiding light, and by the song’s conclusion, there’s an undeniable sense of hope.
Fuck You is the latest taste of Luke And Sarah-Rose’s upcoming album, due out in late August. Judging by the quality of everything we’ve heard so far, I think we can safely expect plenty more great tunes.
