Tegan and Sara to reimagine their high school songs in upcoming album

After recently announcing their upcoming memoir, High School, Tegan and Sara have revealed they’ll be releasing a new album as well.

Their ninth album, titled Hey, I’m Just Like You, will feature newly recorded versions of the first songs they wrote together as teenagers.

Tegan and Sara are back to their punk roots with brand new album, Hey, I’m Just Like You, featuring the very first songs they wrote in high school.

Tegan Quin explains how the coming of age album came about;“While working on our memoir, we discovered lost cassette tapes that had been unheard for over 20 years. They contained dozens of our first songs, written between the ages of 15 and 17… we immediately recognised the songs as an essential part of our high school story”.

The record marks a return to their rock and punk roots while also integrating aspects of their more recent pop production. Sara assures the revamped versions stay true to their cassette origins, saying“With only minor tweaks to lyrics and structure, we tried to remain true to the original essence of each song.”

Recorded earlier this year in Vancouver, this release will be the first since 2016 album Love You to Death, and is the first album the duo have created with a team of all women. The trailer for the upcoming release features old home footage of Tegan and Sara, with a brief  snippet of one of their early songs and it’s reimagined version.

Hey, I’m Just Like You will be released September 27th while the memoir, High School will be out September 24th.
