The Basics are set to release two versions of their song Tunaomba Saidia through a free download via the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC) newsletter this Thursday May 28.
The song was recorded during the band’s sessions at Abbey Road studios, the second version featuring a 9-piece Benga band from Nairobi. Bassist Kris Schroeder spent time working in East Africa for the Red Cross and was inspired by the music he encountered there.
Speaking of the band’s close connection to the ASRC Schroeder said “There are so many common misconceptions around refugees. These are people trying to do the best they can in life for themselves and their family in the best possible way, and they shouldn’t be judged for their motivations, when universally, it’s what we all try to do“.
