The Midnight Infirmary chat their irresistible new single Spring Song

If you’re not already listening to Sydney-based outfit The Midnight Infirmary, you’re missing out. The band ooze out an irresistible blend of soul, indie-rock, blues, folk, pop, and jazz, delivering a sound uniquely their own. With groove-laden instrumentation and sultry vocal hooks, their new single Spring Song is the perfect showcase of their captivating music.

The new track arrives alongside an equally incredible music video, and fresh off its release, we caught up with the band to chat all about it.

With a brilliant new single and music video under their belts, we caught up with Sydney-based outfit The Midnight Infirmary for a chat.

HAPPY: Hey, how’s it going? What are you up to at the moment?

MIDNIGHT INFIRMARY: Hey! James, Anton, Dan and Hudson here :) Going great, just gigging, preparing to play Perisher Peak Fest in early June.

HAPPY: Congrats on getting Spring Song out! How does it feel having the song out there in the world?

HUDSON: It’s good to have it finally out and we’re stoked with the reception! James wrote it years ago and it’s fantastic to see the music video come together too.

HAPPY: Could you tell us a bit about the track?

ANTON: So just like the rest of the upcoming EP, James wrote it for his solo project, ‘St James Infirmary’. But we knew each other from other groups so it quickly became a band. The song is quite light and poppy – a fun little tune to sing along to, and the video was just a bit of fun with a mannequin!

HAPPY: This new single will be your first under the new band name… do you feel like you’ve approached this new track differently at all to past material?

DAN: Absolutely. James had the song for a long time but it was an entirely different beast to the hard 70s rock I’ve been used to playing. We’ve written songs together now, and the new band name reflects this collaboration. This EP, however, is still very much a band arrangement of solo content. It was just about thinking of our own part to meet what was already there.

HAPPY: This is the first taste off an upcoming EP… is this new track representative of what’s to come?

JAMES: It is and isn’t. You’ll just have to wait and see ;)

HAPPY: Were there any particular artists you were listening to when you wrote/recorded this song?

JAMES: Lots of 60’s pop – Van Morrison, The Beach Boys.

HAPPY: What’s next for The Midnight Infirmary? Any other exciting plans in the works?

ANTON: We all want to play more often, so working on our live show and just trying to get out there is quite important. Other than that, writing and recording more tunes. James is very prolific and now that we write together, there’s quite a bit of new material ready to be recorded!

HAPPY: Cheers for the chat!
