Having a comfortable, functional studio space is one of the most potent conductors of creative energy. Nothing’s a bigger vibe-killer than getting bogged down by disorganisation or a workflow that doesn’t quite… well, work.
The centrepiece of a functional studio is a decent workstation. For small to medium studios, this doesn’t have to be anything over-the-top. But something that is ergonomic and practical (and that looks good) is pretty important. There aren’t a lot of options when it comes to affordable studio desks. One that is making waves right now though it the Platform.
The Output Platform workstation is the studio desk you need. Here’s where you can get it in Australia.
Platform is a design from the folks at Output, who are known for their powerful software packs. It’s a beautiful, functional, affordable flatpack workstation aimed specifically at musicians. With a bridge for your monitors and screen, 9U of rack space, a cable management system to end all your cable tangle woes, and an optional keyboard tray, it’s the studio desk you need.
It’s also a really beautiful piece of furniture and is made from sustainable timber. Plus Output donates a portion of Platform’s sales to musician and environmentalist Ryuichi Sakamoto’s More Trees foundation to support their reforestation efforts.
The reviews for the Platform have been crazy good, and it doesn’t cost a mint either like a lot of other studio-specific workstations. In Australia, it retails for just over $1K. And the only place you can get yourself one is Sounds Easy.
Sounds Easy is one of Australia’s top music tech retailers. Aside from offering a vast selection of hardware and software solutions (probably the best in the country for DJs and producers, pro-audio, film/TV composers), they also have active studios that function as showrooms where you can actually go in and demo gear in a before you buy it. Their team is super knowledgeable and are more than happy to share tips and advice.
