Vince Charming has been writing songs for six decades.
That kind of longevity changes how a person sees their own work.
For the Bay Area singer songwriter, some songs get a full life on stage and record. Others get forgotten.
They sit in notebooks or hard drives or memory, waiting for a moment that never quite arrives.
Charming started calling those his orphaned songs.
In February 2026, he released Man Out of Time, a six song solo EP that finally gives those orphans a proper home.
The record came together in an unusual way. Most of the tracks began as GarageBand demos. Some were just for Charming himself.
Others were meant as working recordings for Vince Charming Band to learn.
The only exception was ‘Rolled Into One,’ which he started recording in early 2024 with plans to release it as a solo single.
Then everything changed. In 2025, the existing incarnation of Vince Charming Band fell apart.
Charming found himself sitting with those demos during a period of real loss and transition.
He started hearing connections he had missed before. The songs belonged together.
He made the decision to turn the demos into finished recordings, moving everything into Pro Tools, revisiting his own performances, and bringing in other musicians to contribute. The orphaned songs finally had a home.
The EP moves through Americana, folk rock, and classic singer songwriter territory.
Charming draws from the traditions of artists like Tom Petty, Gram Parsons, Johnny Cash, and Neil Young, but his voice remains his own.
The six tracks range from intimate acoustic numbers to fuller arrangements.
They are tied together by Charming’s sharp storytelling and his fascination with relationships, loss, and the unexpected turns life takes.

Through it all, Charming never gets sentimental. He observes. He winks. He lets the songs breathe.
The EP arrived during a period of upheaval, but Charming did not stop.
He rebuilt Vince Charming Band with a new lineup in 2026 and returned to a busy performance schedule throughout Northern California.
Two of the orphaned songs, ‘Man Out of Time’ and ‘Everybody Leaves,’ have already found new life in the band’s live repertoire.
The band calls its sound “Roots Music and Beyond,” and that description fits. Country, rock, folk, and bluegrass all show up, but the music never stays in one lane for long.
These songs were not written for a specific project. They were written because Charming had something to say at different points in his life.
Some are decades old. Some are newer. But they all carry the same unmistakable signature: a writer who has been paying attention for a very long time and still has plenty left to say.
