Introducing ¹fm¹

Ok everyone, don’t lose your shit now, but I just wanted to inform you that I’m listening to the future. It might be from space. But it’s really good. The futuristic alien music I’m referring to is Sydney-based DJ and Producer ¹fm¹ and whether you’re into aliens or not you gotta open up this can of worms. OPEN IT.

¹fm¹

Inside the can is a whole mash up of glitchy/lo-fi/dream pop/electronic/chiptune/retro gaming wonder music: a lifetime of influences all coming together in cataclysmic fashion. This stuff is other worldly and with many of ¹fm¹’s tracks, where you start is not really where you’ll end up. Do some homework by listening to the EP Buttons that was released in October 2012 through Wood and Wire. It’s an electronic feast of crazy synths, drum machines and gaming equipment. It’s experimental but accessible.

A new EP is due for release early this year, but in the meantime, they’ve been busy making guest mixes for Brothersister Records and remixing tracks for some other sick acts. Two of the latest are for Sydney’s Bon Chat, Bon Rat and Tennessee-Georgia duo Crystal Coast. The remix of Bon Chat, Bon Rat’s Dust Proud is lo-fi mixing at it’s best. It’s hypnotic and an awesome re-imagining. It builds in tension and atmosphere and then WHAAAAAM, you’re on a new tangent. I like this. The track was also featured on Strain of Origin III, a compilation by Feral Media & Lo-Fly Recordings (which made FBi album of the week in December). The remix of Crystal Coast’s In My Head is a glitchy, bass-tastic deep and dark fantasy that will enter your head and probably won’t ever leave (not a bad thing). Beware! This sentiment rings true for pretty much everything ¹fm¹ produces.
