Glass Skies – Lemonade

If you wanted to re-visit the groovy 60’s without leaving the comfort of our modern day naughties technology, my suggestion would be to drop acid, have sex with many strangers and talk about peace. Failing that, you could always listen to Glass Skies, which will take you some of the way there.

The band is a 7-piece hailing from Radelaide and are fine purveyors of psychedelic rock. We got a taste of some of their stuff when they released Highway, which got a lot of radio and internet attention. They’ve now followed this up with their newest single Lemonade.

What do you get when you combine the sounds of Queens Of The Stone Age with Lime Cordiale? Why, just ask Glass Skies.

Lemonade, pure and simple, deserves all the hype it’s received of late. Glass Skies make beautiful hard rock softened by that 60’s reverberation on the bass and cool vocal styling, both of which are exemplified in Lemonade. Put together two parts Queens of the Stone Age and three parts Lime Cordiale: and you’re some way to Lemonade (see what I did there).

The best part about the single though is that it’s unobtrusively smooth, almost as though it simply melted into existence and is now available for your ear buds to suck up. You could listen to the track on a sunny road trip or in a darkly lit bar and it wouldn’t feel out of place in either.

Lemonade seems like an interesting but pleasant departure from Highway, which is more unapologetically hard rock. We’re excited to see more of what the band has to offer when they release their debut EP in July. Citrus is good for you, errybody know that. If you like what you hear, head over to Glass Skies’ Soundcloud page where you can download Lemonade for free.
