PREMIERE: New Flightless alumni Leah Senior releases The City Is a Stream

Exciting news people, indie and roots music sensation Leah Senior has signed up with Melbourne label Flightless with the first single of their collaboration The City Is a Stream premiering today.

Leah Senior premiere

With her honey soaked voice and gently plucked guitars, Leah Senior is as sweet as they come. Now teaming up with Flightless, we can expect big things.

Red lips, thick fringe, blonde hair; move over Taylor Swift, no matter how ‘good’ your latest album supposedly was you’ve got nothin’ on Leah. She’s sweeter than Swift and is a lyrical angel. With help from her sister, Andi, Leah uses her sweet as honey voice and guitar to woo over folk-pop lovers and dreamers. Their paired harmonies couple elements of friendship and unity and their songs are poetic, nostalgic and as authentic and invigorating as folk ballads can get.

Flightless have worked with the likes of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard and The Murlocs. They are a big name in the independent record label world and offer a range of contemporary music expertise. Teaming up with Leah opens up new doors for Flightless as she is the first roots-folk styled musician they have worked with, which makes this paring even more magical.

A City is a Stream sounds like Laura Marling and First Aid Kit combined; Leah’s vocal confidence is profound in this track. “It’s such a perfect day to get caught out in the rain”, describes how the simple things in life can mean so much. Violin and cello fiddle like guitars and detailed descriptions paint a winter day about being lost in life and settling for watching everything around you. This song is subtly astounding yet delicate and vocally intimate. It’s almost like Leah is whispering secrets to you over a hot chocolate in a city coffee shop.

In the past Leah has worked on the concepts of past, present, city and space. This song harnesses all these pieces of her musical puzzle and reaches out to a diverse audience to listen to her pondering. She describes her project with adjectives; green wallpaper, low lamps, blinds drawn, and just like a humble house setting, the music to her name is even more earnest.

The City is a Stream is beautifully haunting and it’s times like this that Australia can have a pat on the back for producing such elegant music. Leah is set to release her debut album, Summer’s on The Ground on Flightless later in the year.
