Blizzard have decided to cancel their 2022 plans and “reimagine” what BlizzCon may look like in the future.
Activision-Blizzard’s California lawsuit has left an ever increasing impact on the company. BlizzCon seems to be no exception to that current rule, with its previous February 2022 scheduling now BlizzCancelled.
In a community letter posted to their site, Blizzard announced the “tough decision”. The poster said that “any BlizzCon event takes every single one of us to make happen” and with so many employees in an uproar over current events, it’s easy to see why that unity isn’t there at the moment.
They went on to note that Blizzard will be taking “the time to reimagine what a BlizzCon event” will look like in future. It was 16 years ago that the event started, so this cancellation is a pretty big and shocking one.
In line with recent attempts to address the sexist and unwelcoming workplace culture revealed by the lawsuit, the post says “whatever the event looks like…we also need to ensure that it feels safe”. Which one can only hope it means for attendees and employees alike.

The company will apparently “still be making announcements and updates” for their games, even if BlizzCon isn’t being held next year. So for those who’re concerned about that aspect, you’re in luck. Especially with “exciting upcoming news and releases“ promised.
I know I’m certainly curious about what sorts of changes they’re going to be making for the future.
