Interupt: A duo from Sydney’s West reach half a billion streams in China

It’s a wild example of music engaging an unexpected audience in surprising ways, as duo from Western Sydney, Interupt, blow up in China.

It’s crazy to think we live in an age in which two mates from Western Sydney, can garner half a billion streams in China – but that’s exactly what’s happened with bass house duo, Interupt.

After their singles Power and Power (In Your Soul) went viral on Chinese Tiktok, the duo blew up, and have since re-released the former song in Mandarin.

Alex De Martin and Josip Mijatovic are the Sydney siders who make up Interupt, and they’ve been making music together since 2019.

Heavy dance anthems filled with hard drops and catchy electronic clang is the boys M.O, and it’s evidently resonating with international audiences.

“The story of ‘Power’ just comes back to a catchy record finding its path and engaging with an audience in unexpected ways. The hard work’s really starting to pay off for the guys and the whole team couldn’t be more pumped to continue helping them to develop. Being in a position to build on that momentum with ‘Power (In Your Soul)’ and now seeing their sound attracting global attention is super exciting,” Chris Fraser from TMRW Music (the label behind Interupt) told The Music Network.

Tiktok really is changing the game – artists have reach and access to audiences in a brand new way, and there really is no telling what might blow up, or where it might blow up.
