A graphic novel tracing the early years of The Grateful Dead is coming out next year, featuring stunning art prints and previously unreleased recordings on vinyl.

According to z2, Grateful Dead Origins takes a “personal look at the formation of one of the most important American rock bands of all time.”

“The story of the band’s transformation from a bar band performing as the Warlocks to becoming the creators of their own sound and forefathers for the jamband culture is depicted in the original story written by Chris Miskiewicz and illustrated by Noah Van Sciver.”

There will be a limited run collector’s deluxe edition which will come in oversized hardcover, with each copy individually-numbered and autographed by the comic’s creators. The edition will feature three art prints and will be accompanied with early unreleased music from the band on vinyl.

There will also be a standard edition available which will come with a download featuring early music as an accompaniment to the book.
