After what seemed like an eternity to some, Vampire Weekend have dropped the news via social media that they will be releasing their fourth album initialled, ‘FOTB.’ Lead singer Ezra Koenig said the album contains 18 songs, with a total run length of 59 minutes.
Koenig confirmed that leading up to the release of the album, there will be three two-song drops each moth. The band said that they will start releasing new music next week, although the release date of the entire album is still yet to be confirmed.
“It’s a lot of songs but they all belong there”; Vampire Weekend have finished recording their fourth album initialled ‘FOTB’, which is set to be released sometime this year.
Koenig addressed the six year gap between albums by justifying that they have already released three full-length albums since their inception.
“I know that 5-6 years is considered a long time between records. Personally, I think it’s a dignified pace befitting a band that’s already placed three albums in stores. But everyone has their own sense of time.”
Evidently, the band didn’t seem to notice the length of time in between albums.
“I swear the time between 3 & 4 felt shorter to me than 2 & 3. I may be in the minority on this one. This album didn’t really take any longer to write/record than ‘MVOTC,’ we just took more time on the front end to chill.”
Vampire Weekend’s last Australian appearance was at Splendour In The Grass 2018. With another album under their belt, let’s hope they head down under again soon.
