Akouo (pron. Ak-oo-oh) is a producer from Tasmania who makes chiller electronic beats, similar to the stuff coming out of Sydney’s electronic scene. Floaty, drizzling and ever undefinable, it’s got experimental, bunny hopping beats like Cosmo’s Midnight, yet this music is invariably as much about exploring sound as making music to shake it to, more akin to Seekae‘s experimental engineering.
Starting this weekend (22nd Feb), the artist is embarking on a huge national tour, as well as a date across the pond in NZ. The first stop is Perth, where it will all be going down at Amplifier on Saturday night, alongside Sid Pattni who chops up soulful R&B, mixes it with some starship noises and cooks it until the bass is golden on top, yet meaty and moist in the middle.
Tasmanians will be able to catch the homegrown hero at MONA on the 1st of March in support of American electronic experimentalist extraordinaire Flying Lotus. Check out Akouo’s beats below and at his SoundCloud page, which has a wealth of remixes, bootlegs and reworkings.
