Melbourne’s Little Wise derived her moniker from an amalgamation of the origins of her Yiddish/Germanic name, Sophie Klein – Sophie roughly translating to “wise” and Klein to “little”.
It’s this kind of poignancy that you will find too in her music, which is a gorgeous combination of rootsy folk and alternative country. Her new single Under Water, and it’s accompanying film clip, narrate with warm melancholy that all too real feeling that no matter how hard you try, swimming upstream is inevitably fruitless.
Melbourne alt-country sweetheart Little Wise has just dropped a gorgeous new single and video called Under Water, and she’s heading on tour to celebrate.
Klein will be hitting the road to celebrate, taking her sweet tunes on a 5 date run up the east coast. Catch her at the following dates:
SUN 7 Aug / BRISBANE / The Milk Factory / With Emma Bosworth
SAT 13 Aug / CANBERRA / Smith’s Alternative / With Jim Sharrock (Doctor Stovepipe)
THURS 25 Aug / ADELAIDE / The Wheatsheaf Hotel / With Loren Kate
THURS 1 Sep / SYDNEY / The Gasoline Pony / With Sam Newton & Alana Bruce
SUN 4 Sep / MELBOURNE / The Yarra Hotel / With The Weeping Willows
The debut LP from Little Wise, Silver Birch, is due out in November. The album was supported by a crowdfunding venture backed by Creative Partnerships Australia via the MATCH funding program and was produced by production duo MEJU – Megan Bernard and Kalju Tonuma (Neil Finn, Crowded House, Hunters and Collectors).
It’s sure to be a gorgeous debut that blurs the lines between folk, roots, country and blues with charm and candour. Keep your eyes peeled for more from Little Wise.
