Words by the masked maniacs of Bikini Death Race.
Party Animals is like a big bubble of soap, created by the band to hide in and protect themselves from those moments when life gets to be too much. Choosing idiocy as psychotherapy and Dadaism as their philosophy on life, the songs on the album symbolise an exorcism for Bikini Death Race; a driving out of senselessness through senselessness!
The tracks talk about small comedies of the absurd. Moments that could happen to anyone, that are awkward or painful, amusing or ridiculous. Bikini Death Race make fun of themselves through the telling of these ten tales.
Bikini Death Race are inspired by the shit that life regularly throws at you, The Ramones, Le Tigre, Kap Bambino, Crystal Castles, Tuxedo Moon, Ladytron, Depeche Mode, Cock Sparrer and…. Ace of Base!
Celestico
It’s a messed-up nursery rhyme about crimes against fashion. Trying to survive in a parallel reality where horrifying fashion fads could cost you your life!
Fashion victims (and, let’s face it, we’ve probably all been there) succumbing to items such as crocs, drop-pants, bubble jackets, cold-shoulder tops and pastel suits are hunted down by the Dame with an axe and if you get caught then it’s chip chop, chip chop, up goes the chopper!
The Rabbit Hole
Have you ever experienced one of those awful situations when someone says hi to you and enthusiastically shakes your hand and you have absolutely no idea who they are? This is The Rabbit Hole. It’s about slipping down a hole in the ground to escape a scenario of face-blindness! Wracking your brain to try and place a face.
Are they from the office, the gym, are they a semi-celebrity? Why are they looking at me like that? How can I escape? Maybe my only way out is to challenge them with a fight to the death.
Zombie Posers
Who knows what this is really about… probably something like BDR’s take on the rituals of social media; profile pics with tits out and goth make-up, ambiguous poses, pecs out, holidays at the seaside and yearly skiing breaks. The ones where everyone is smiling, but everyone is dead inside.
Oh Ooh
Oh Ooh! The disastrous end of another relationship! Getting revenge on ex who dumped you now that you are sooo much better off not having to listen to their bullshit and put up with their shameful behaviour!
Was I really like that? Did I really say those things? Did I really laugh at their jokes? Was I really in love with them? Oh well, I’m ok now, apart from not being able to get amorous after drinking eight pints of lager on a Friday night.
Don’t Talk
This one is about what you have to endure to get a kiss from someone you fancy. How many nights are you going to have to sit and listen to them talking about random bullshit until they realise that you are glazing over and really only wanting them to shut up and kiss you!
Party Animals
It’s a celebration of the classic suburban American high school party that we’ve seen so many times in movies. Buying supplies from the liquor store, grilling hot dogs by the pool, getting laid on the front lawn and kissing in the kitchen.
This party has a dirty undertone though. Tainted with BDR’s own memories of squalid adolescent raves. Spring break gone wrong!
Fuck Off and Die
It’s about having to listen to people who talk incessantly about nothing. The torture of the office 9 to 5 and the re-evaluation of hate. Being chatted up by leery colleagues, having them breathe on you and loiter by your desk. Having to listen to people speaking in meetings, their voices going through you like the sound of nails being scraped down a blackboard.
And what is it all for anyway? A promotion? Ha!
Not Sorry
This song is about the curse of the English. Their need to say sorry at least twice an hour, especially when what happened wasn’t their fault! Someone steps on your foot in the metro and you apologise. Someone doesn’t hold the door open for you and you apologise. You got drunk last night and talked shit so you apologise. You didn’t like someone’s profile pic and you apologise.
But do you know what? You are really not sorry at all!
Have You Ever?
It’s about those awful art parties where you are surrounded by ‘artists’ ‘travellers’ ‘writers’ ‘directors’ and ‘musicians’ and they ask you if you’ve read their book, seen their movie or… been to Bali? Because if you haven’t been to Bali, then you really know nothing at all about life!
Ok, just stand there please while I break a bottle over your head.
Time Machine
It’s the melancholy tale of an inventor who made a time machine. It’s parked out back. The only problem is she never has time to use it. The inventor’s dream is to travel back to 1988 and fix her worst mistakes but the dream is destroyed because her calendar is always full in 2018. Imagine the frustration! The song also features the wisdom and words of the late Stephen Hawking and has become BDR’s tribute to him.
