US singer-songwriter Brandi Carlile has been named the official ambassador for Record Store Day 2020 and will represent the annual event in April.
Pearl Jam were the ambassadors last year, and previous ambassadors include Run the Jewels in 2018, St. Vincent in 2017, and Metallica in 2016.
Record Store Day 2020 is all about getting into music stores and discovering great music, and Brandie Carlile has been announced as the official ambassador for this year’s event.
“The Twins and I have never made an album that we didn’t intend to be in an independent record store,” Carlile said in a statement, referring to the collaborators she has worked with for her whole career, Tim and Phil Hanseroth.
“Thank you so much for recognising this love in me and the Twins and giving us this opportunity. We won’t let you down.”
According to the official Record Store Day site, to participate in the event you must be physical store whose company is not publicly traded and whose ownership is at least 70% located in the state of operation. This means real, physical indie record stores and not online retailers.
The annual day is celebrated globally, and plenty of Aussie stores get involved, including Red Eye Records, HUM and Utopia Records, just to name a few.
Carlile recently appeared at the 2020 Grammy Awards where she performed alongside Tanya Tucker, whom she co-produced the Grammy-nominated hit While I’m Livin’ for.
Get down to your local indie record store on April 18 to participate in the annual event. Don’t miss out!
