Brian Eno and Roger Eno have released the first track from the concert film of their Live at the Acropolis performance.
Brian Eno and Roger Eno have worked on numerous projects throughout the years. However, until their 2021 performance Live at the Acropolis, the brothers had never performed live together. Their first concert together took place at UNESCO world heritage site the Odeon of Herodes Atticus amphitheatre, making it even more memorable.
The Odeon of Herodes Atticus, built between 160 and 174AD, was the third Odeon to be built in Athens. “I don’t perform live very often,” said Brian, “but I couldn’t miss the chance to perform in what may be the world’s oldest theatre, located at the birthplace of Western Civilisation”.
The concert featured music from the brothers’ 2020 album Mixing Colours and a number of songs that were eventually featured on Brian’s 2022 album FOREVERANDEVERNOMORE and Roger’s Deutsche Grammophon solo debut The Turning Year. They also performed a number of solo pieces and fan favourites.
The full, recorded concert is set to premiere on March 2nd in cinemas around the UK. Fans can get their first taste of the film with the brothers’ performance of ‘Celeste’.
The band also featured Leo Abrahams on guitar and Peter Chilvers on keyboard, and Rogers daughter Cecily Eno. “I’m grateful to Roger, Cecily, Leo and Peter who made this rare appearance memorable for me,” said Brian. He also thanked filmmaker Tilo Krause “who managed to make a beautiful documentation of the whole event”.
Roger added that the performance was “an exceptional honour”. “This film, I think, captures the moment accurately and sensitively,” he said. “But it is more than a mere momento or a document – it is a work of beauty in itself that can now be shared worldwide”.
